The meeting of the European Union (EU) and the Gulf Arab states holds historical significance, as it comes in the wake of a new significant regional conflict that has arisen since Saturday, wrote Hungarian FM Peter Szijjarto on his Facebook page.

Peter Szijjarto expressed hope that this time "every European participant will strike a sincere and respectful tone and will not use the occasion for criticism and lecturing."

The minister wrote that prior to the meeting, he held bilateral discussions with his Arab counterparts. First, he had discussions with the host of the meeting, Badr bin Hamad bin Hamud al Busaidi, Oman's Minister of Foreign Affairs, who has already done a lot to enhance bilateral relations by deciding to establish an embassy in Budapest.

He added that their discussions focused on energy cooperation.

FM Szijjarto emphasized that Hungary is committed to creating sustainable and environmentally friendly energy usage. At the same time, the government has made it clear that this cannot be done "mindlessly," and progress must be made step by step to ensure that "we do not undermine the competitiveness of our economy" in the process.

Developments related to green hydrogen offer a great opportunity. "Oman is one of the global leaders in green hydrogen development," so it is a great success that, based on the agreement signed on Tuesday, Hungary has become Oman's first Central European partner in research and development related to green hydrogen, he concluded.
