The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Tuesday morning held a symposium at the Great Hall of the People to commemorate the 130th anniversary of the birth of Comrade Mao Zedong, Xinhua reported.
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered an important speech at the symposium.
Xi stressed the importance of pushing forward the cause pioneered by Mao Zedong and called for efforts to build China into a stronger country and rejuvenate the Chinese nation on all fronts by pursuing Chinese modernization.
Mao Zedong Thought is an invaluable spiritual wealth for our Party and will guide our action in the long term, Xi said, underscoring that the best way to commemorate Comrade Mao Zedong is to continue to advance the cause pioneered by him.
Highlighting the need to implement the Party's overall policy for resolving the Taiwan question in the new era, and uphold the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, Xi called for efforts to advance integrated development in all fields across the Taiwan Strait, and promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
We will resolutely prevent anyone from making Taiwan secede from China by any means, Xi underscored.
Before the speech, Xi led the Politburo Standing Committee, the country’s most powerful decision-making body, in “remembering Mao Zedong’s achievements” at Mao’s mausoleum in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, where his embalmed body is on display.
Xi and his delegation bowed three times in front of Mao’s marble statue to honour the day.
