Hungary may be the venue for the planned summit between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, according to The Guardian, citing senior US officials. The British newspaper recalled that Donald Trump called the Russian president during the Ukrainian president and European leaders' visit to Washington to begin organizing the meeting. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believed that the parties could meet within two weeks.

The question is the location: Budapest has once again been mentioned in the media. Hungary was also among the possible locations before the historic meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, but the summit was ultimately held in Alaska. Budapest is a logical choice, as the Hungarian government has consistently urged a pro-peace stance and has not closed the door to dialogue. There is also a historical precedent, as the Budapest Memorandum was signed here in 1994, agreeing on Ukraine's independence and sovereignty.

French President Emmanuel Macron, however, said that he believed the Ukrainian and Russian presidents should meet in a neutral country, such as Switzerland, and that he himself would support Geneva.
