The National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) started their annual meetings on Saturday and Sunday.

Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the opening meeting of the first session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), held at the Great Hall of the People, Global Times reported on Saturday. The National People’s Congress (NPC) started its session on Sunday.

Efforts should be made to fully and faithfully apply the new development philosophy on all fronts, and better coordinate the effective upgrade in quality with the appropriate expansion in quantity in economic development, Xi said, he said according to Xinhua.

China's development must serve to continuously strengthen the people's sense of fulfillment, happiness and security.

It was also announced on Sunday that China’s draft budget for 2023 which will see the country's annual defense budget rise to 1.5537 trillion yuan (224.79 billion USD), an increase of 7.2 percent,remaining single-digit for the 8th consecutive year. Analysts said that the figure marks a reasonable and restrained boost amid military spending sprees by many other countries around the world in light of global security tensions, Global Times added.
