The golden mask of Pharaoh Tutankhamen will be moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum, located near the pyramids of Giza, once the official date of the opening is set. According to Nikkei Asia, the plan is expected to revive Egypt's tourism, and Cairo is especially keen on attracting tourists from China.

In March, Egypt launched a new national strategy for the tourism sector with an ambitious goal of attracting 30 million tourists in 2028, Nikkei Asia writes, adding that the strategy envisions developing more hotels, accepting more flights and protecting tourists from harassment and fraud.

Hopes to attract more Chinese tourists were on display when Tourism Minister Ahmed Issa and Chinese counterpart Hu Heping recently discussed ways to enhance cooperation in Cairo, the news site recalls. Two days before Hu's arrival, the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority hosted a delegation of 22 Chinese tour operators.

"Egypt recognises the importance of the Chinese market for tourism, as well as the importance of working to attract more Chinese tourists to Egypt, especially given that China is one of the most promising markets and one of the largest tourism-exporting countries in the world," Amr El-Qady, CEO of the authority said, according to Nikkei Asia.
