Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz traveled to Lefkosa, the capital of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), on his first visit after taking office.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will overcome all embargoes imposed on this land for decades and open up to the globe in the Century of Türkiye, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz said Monday on his first visit after taking office last month, Daily Sabah reported.

"Settling the Cyprus issue with a fair, permanent and sustainable solution that will guarantee the security and legitimate rights of Turkish Cypriots is a top priority for Türkiye," Yılmaz told reporters alongside Turkish Cyprus President Ersin Tatar following a one-on-one meeting in the capital Lefkoşa (Nicosia).

He and Tatar reportedly had a "very productive" meeting where they dissected shared issues and discussed steps to take in cooperation for the development of Northern Cyprus, its struggle for recognition and initiatives in the Eastern Mediterranean and Varosha (Maraş).

"I believe that the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people, as a sovereign state and nation, will soon take their deserved place in the international arena, within the framework of international law," Anadolu Agency quoted  Cevdet Yılmaz. "We are already continuing our work in consensus and unity of hearts in this regard," he added.

He called the TRNC's acceptance to the Organization of Turkic States as an observer state a "valuable step," which is a significant "indication of Türkiye's two-state policy."

"Resolving the Cyprus issue in a just, permanent, and sustainable manner, ensuring the legitimate rights and security of the Turkish Cypriots, is one of our country's most important priorities."

"We have never walked away from the negotiating table in pursuit of a solution, but our policy is clear and open: we are always open to a solution based on a two-state framework."
