2025 marks an important milestone in the history of the traditional friendly relations between Vietnam and Hungary – 75 years have passed since the two countries established diplomatic relations. Looking back over three-quarters of a century, we can gladly and proudly state that the relationship between the two countries has developed strongly, and it has always been characterized by sincere friendship, trust, and close cooperation between our nations.
Hungary was one of the first ten countries to recognize Vietnam and establish diplomatic relations with it. Since then, Vietnamese–Hungarian cooperation has continuously expanded in many areas. A particularly important milestone was reached in 2018, when the relations between the two countries were elevated to a comprehensive partnership level, marked by the official visit to Hungary of Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. This step reflects the strategic vision and determination of the leaders of both countries to guide bilateral cooperation towards a deeper, more substantive, and effective direction. The close cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the EU–Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, as well as in multilateral forums, has also contributed to strengthening the role and position of Vietnam and Hungary both in the region and globally.
The Government and the people of Vietnam are grateful and thankful to the Government and people of Hungary for the valuable and effective support provided during Vietnam’s struggle for independence and unification, as well as for their continued contributions to the country’s building and development. Thousands of Vietnamese professionals and leaders were trained in Hungary, who have actively contributed to the development of the country and have played an important bridging role in bilateral cooperation. Today’s young generations in Vietnam and Hungary continue to build on this fine tradition. I am convinced that, based on this solid foundation, the relations between Vietnam and Hungary will continue to flourish, meeting the aspirations and interests of the two peoples, and contributing to peace, stability, security, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region and around the world.
This publication celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations is of special significance, as it summarizes the important milestones in the relations between the two countries and vividly portrays the long-term development of Vietnamese–Hungarian friendship and cooperation. On this occasion, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the leaders and peoples of both countries for their continuous contributions to the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary. I also extend my special thanks to the authors who contributed to the preparation of this publication, and I hope that it will provide readers with stories that enrich the emotional bonds between the two peoples and showcase the traditional friendship that has endured for 75 years, so that we may continue to write beautiful stories together in the future.
