Thailand has been ranked as the third-best destination for digital nomads in the world, after the United States and Spain, according to a study by online resume building service Resume.io., Thailand Business News reported.

The study analysed 25,976 Instagram posts with the hashtag #digitalnomad and used geotagged locations to determine the most popular countries and cities, the news site added.

According to Thailand Business News, Bangkok was ranked as the top destination for digital nomads in Asia and Oceania, with Chiang Mai, Koh Phangan and Krabi also making the top 10 in Asia. The study found London to have the most vibrant digital nomad Instagram community in Europe, while New York City was the digital nomad capital of the US and North America.

The article pointed out that Thailand offers a low cost of living, a high quality of life, a vibrant culture, and a variety of destinations to suit different preferences and lifestyles. "Whether you prefer the bustling city of Bangkok, the serene mountains of Chiang Mai, or the stunning beaches of Phuket, you will find a place that meets your needs and inspires your creativity," it added.

Among Thailand's benefits the article listed affordable living, beautiful nature and weather, friendly locals and culture and a diverse community.

However, there are also challenges for digital nomads choosing Thailand, the news site noted. Thailand does not have a specific visa for digital nomads, so you will have to apply for other types of visas that suit your situation, it warned. There can also be a language barrier, because "while many Thais speak some English, especially in tourist areas, you may encounter some difficulties communicating with locals in more rural or remote areas". The article also mentioned culture shock, explaining that "while Thailand is a modern and progressive country, it also has its own unique culture and values that may differ from yours".
