The second season of Squid Game has broken all records. The South Korean series, which debuted on 26 December, was watched 68 million times in its first week, surpassing Wednesday, which has been the gold medalist since 2022 with 50 million views, according to official Netflix statistics.

The whole world is going crazy for the film: in the 92 countries where Netflix is available, including Hungary, it has been the number one everywhere. No series has ever done this before.

Unsurprisingly, many people also rewatched the first season, which was bronze between 23 and 29 December globally and fifth in Hungary.

Netflix has even launched a video game on the theme. Squid Game: Unleashed was one of the most popular action games.

The question remains: will the second season of Squid Game be able to beat the ratings of the previous season, which was a worldwide success? The bar is set high: the previous season generated a total of 2.2 billion hours. The fact that the sequel is only 7 episodes compared to the previous 9 is a disadvantage.

So far, its reception is not as good as its predecessor: it's at 64% on Rotten Tomatoes.

But one thing is already clear: the third - and, if all is true, final - season will arrive in 2025.
