In October 2024, a delegation, from the Learning Institute of the Mathias Corvinus College (MCC) in Budapest embarked on a second fact-finding mission to China. This mission, part of the "Learning from Asia" (LfA) project, aimed to build on the insights gained during a similar tour in May 2023 and the "Learning from Asia in Education" international conference held in Budapest in October 2023.

Second fact-finding mission to China: Exploring university-industry cooperation innovations

In October 2024, a delegation, from the Learning Institute of the Mathias Corvinus College (MCC) in Budapest embarked on a second fact-finding mission to China. This mission, part of the "Learning from Asia" (LfA) project, aimed to build on the insights gained during a similar tour in May 2023 and the "Learning from Asia in Education" international conference held in Budapest in October 2023.

The primary goal of the mission was to learn about recent educational advancements and challenges in China and to establish partnerships for future cooperation. The delegation focused on three key thematic areas: university-industry cooperation, teacher learning and development, and talent development.

From October 6th to October 21st 2024, led by Setenyi Janos – director of Learning Institute of MCC, Gábor Halász - senior consultant of Learning from Asia project, and Fan Mizi – research assistant of the project, the team traveled over 10,000 kilometers, visiting five cities: Xi'an, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Sanya, and Guangzhou. Over 15 days, they explored 2 schools, 12 universities, and 3 UNESCO centers, expanding their understanding of the form and content of educational cooperation between university and industry in China.

  • 4 Public Universities: Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Central China Normal University, Hubei University of Technology, Hubei Institute of Fine Art

Shenzhen:

  • 2 Public Universities: Shenzhen University, Shenzhen Polytechnic University
  • 2 UNESCO Centers: UNESCO-ICHEI, UNESCO Chair on Digitalization in TVET

Sanya:

  • 1 UNESCO Center: International Centre for UNESCO ASPnet
  • 1 Private University: University of Sanya
  • 1 High School: Ledong Huangliu High School

Guangzhou:

  • 2 Public Universities: South China University of Technology, South China Normal University

The mission achieved several significant outcomes. The delegation gained deeper insights into the educational practices and challenges in China, particularly in the areas of teacher development, talent nurturing, and institutional partnerships. New partnerships were formed with several Chinese institutions, paving the way for future collaborative projects and exchanges. The delegation also shared their expertise through lectures and workshops, fostering mutual learning and strengthening academic ties.

During their travels, the cultural journey that the delegation explored enriched their experience in China. Visits to historical landmarks in Xi'an, such as the Terracotta Army, and ancient city walls started a glimpse into China's rich cultural heritage. In Wuhan, they explored East Lake and the Hubei Museum of Fine Arts. Shenzhen offered a visit to the Shenzhen Museum, while in Sanya, they toured the Industry Promotion Center of Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City and Nan Shan Hub. In Guangzhou, the delegation visited the Guangzhou Museum. Sampling regional delicacies in each city offered a taste of China's diverse culinary traditions. The delegation also had the opportunity to witness local festivals and traditional performances, adding a cultural dimension to their educational mission.

This second mission to China was a significant step in strengthening educational ties and fostering mutual learning between Hungary and China. By visiting a diverse array of institutions and engaging in meaningful exchanges, MCC Learning Institute gained valuable insights that will inform future educational initiatives and collaborations.
