Russian Railways to launch tourist train 'To the Northern Lights'

Russian Railways will offer tourist trips to several of Russia’s northern cities starting November 3.

A new tourist train, To the Northern Lights, will stop at northern cities on a new route: Moscow-Petrozavodsk-Murmansk-Vologda-Moscow. The whole trip will be five days and four nights, according to arctic.ru.

"The development of railway tourism in Russia has been gaining wide popularity in recent years. We have confidence that this new route will find conquerors of the northern latitudes," said Chairman of the Murmansk Region Tourism Committee Alexander Yeliseyev.

The route includes stops with time to see some of the main natural and architectural sites of the Russian north: Lake Onega, the shore of Kola Bay, the Vologda Kremlin, St. Sophia Cathedral and other landmarks.

On the way, tourists will have an opportunity to visit Petrozavodsk (Karelia) and Vologda, and the highlight of the trip will be a visit to Murmansk, the capital of the Kola Polar Area, the news site added.
