A sustainable method of providing crops with nitrogen, developed by an Israeli Agtech firm, has yielded promising outcomes during a preliminary test conducted in Brazil.

Israel's Grace Breeding has partnered with a Brazilian university to pilot NFT Bio-Fertilizer, The Times of Israel reports. The product aims to cut the use of synthetic nitrogen in crop growing, which leaches into bodies of water causing eutrophication, and is a significant pollutant to produce.

The solution was tested on corn seedlings and showed quick germination rates, equal or better plant growth, and more efficient use of natural nitrogen compared to the synthetic version in chemical fertilisers, according to the company. The fertilizer is designed to improve crop yields and increase plant resilience to climate change.
