“It’s a long-awaited success for MOL in the Caspian region. I am pleased that our Kazakh asset has joined our diverse international production portfolio and represents further potential to MOL’s Exploration and Production. A large number of our subsurface experts, engineers and project managers worked tirelessly together with our Kazakh and Chinese partners in the last 15 years to make it happen. I am especially proud that the MOL team was an active partner and our experts contributed in all technical aspects of the project,” said Zsombor Marton, Executive Vice President of MOL Group Exploration and Production.
The Rozhkovskoye gas and condensate project is operated by Ural Oil and Gas LLP, a joint venture owned by KazMunayGas, Kazakhstan (50%), MOL Group, Hungary (27.5 per cent), and FIOC, China (22.5 per cent).
Out of nine wells drilled in the exploration and appraisal phase, five were successfully re-completed for production in 2021. An Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract was signed in April 2022, covering all elements of the gathering infrastructure.
In parallel with completion of Phase 1, the project is moving ahead to ensure timely delivery of planned Phase 2, in accordance with Field Development Plan endorsed by the Central Commission for Exploration and Development in 2022. It includes additional recompletions, drilling new wells and expanding infrastructure to handle 2.5 million cubic meters per day of gas by the end of 2027.
Since the first well, 2 additional wells have been put into production.
“I would like to extend my congratulations on the successful production start-up of the U-10/U-12 wells last summer. This achievement is a significant milestone in the lifecycle of the project and demonstrates the dedication, expertise and cooperation of every team member involved. The successful launch of these wells marks a pivotal moment in our journey, showcasing our collective ability to overcome challenges and deliver results. I believe this success can serve as a catalyst to drive our team towards continued excellence, as we still have a long way to go to accomplish our ambitious goals,” Mr Marton added.
“The Kazakh operation is a very important part of MOL Group’s Exploration and Production portfolio, and our good relations with KMG dates back decades. KazMunayGas has always been a respected and reliable partner to MOL. We can build on the strategic-level relations between Hungary and Kazakhstan as well, which can further strengthen business relations. Bringing the Rozkovskoye field into production is a success we can all be proud of. It has been a real teamwork between Kazakh and Hungarian colleagues, as well as with the Chinese partners.
Now the goal is to ramp up the production as much as possible. MOL Group and KazMunayGas have the same goal of providing energy supply security – this is what we are working for in Kazakhstan with our partners. During the years, we have managed to overcome every obstacle together; we went through adverse weather circumstances and natural catastrophes. We are on the right track to increase production, but it’s not the only thing we are focusing on.
Together with the consortium partners, we are paying attention to the needs of the local community as well. Recently, the partners donated a school bus to local children who struggle to get to school from the satellite villages. We sincerely hope that this good relationship and partnership will evolve further in the future as we are progressing the second and third phase of the field development program.
I was lucky enough to visit Uralsk recently, where we discussed the next steps with the partners. I would like to thank Chairman Askhat Khassenov of KazMunayGas for the meaningful and fruitful conversations that have further strengthened our cooperation,” said Zsombor Marton.
