After hosting Aston Villa at Old Trafford on May 25, the team is scheduled to play against the ASEAN All Stars in Kuala Lumpur's 84,000-capacity Bukit Jalil National Stadium on May 28, followed by a match against Hong Kong, China, at the 40,000-seat Hong Kong Stadium on May 30.
This tour aims to strengthen connections with the club's extensive Asian fanbase and engage with regional commercial partners. CEO Omar Berrada emphasized the significance of these fixtures, stating they "drive significant additional revenue which help make the club stronger, allowing us to keep investing in success on the pitch."
The announcement comes amid financial challenges for Manchester United, including reported losses exceeding £300 million over the past three years. The club has implemented cost-saving measures such as staff reductions and ticket price increases to address these issues.
While the tour is expected to generate approximately €10 million in revenue, it has raised concerns among fans regarding player fatigue and injury risks, especially with some players set to join their national teams shortly after the tour. Additionally, the club has confirmed participation in preseason friendlies in Scandinavia and the United States later in the summer.
