"I feel impressed with the scientific, social and technological achievements reached by China," Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said after the two-day summit of the Group of 77 (G77) and China in Havana on Saturday, Xinhua reported.

Maduro recalled that during the COVID-19 pandemic, China helped Venezuela acquire medicines and COVID-19 vaccines to tackle the emergency. Citing the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative as an example, President of the Union of the Comoros and Chairperson of the African Union Azali Assoumani said at the summit that China is aimed at creating a balanced and inclusive scenario based on cooperation with all. "China has developed different initiatives that are related in one way or the other with the aims of the group," Jose Ramon Cabanas, director of the International Policy Research Center of Cuba, told Xinhua. Cabanas added that the impressive performance of the Chinese economy boosts the economic and social relations between China and G77. China gets closer to Asian, African, and Latin American countries "not to impose sanctions, but to contribute to progress and the wellbeing of all," Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said, calling China a partner "with the will to help and express its solidarity.

Last week, Maduro paid a visit to China to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. Chinese state media said the two leaders on Wednesday signed several bilateral cooperation documents focused on areas including the economy, trade and tourism after the talks in Beijing, Al Jazeera reported. Xi said China would elevate its ties with Venezuela to an “all-weather strategic partnership”, a label reserved for a select few of its diplomatic partners. He also pointed out that the two countries are partners with shared development, highlighting that both are “good friends with mutual trust”. Venezuela said it actively supports China’s Belt and Road Initiative to boost global trade infrastructure, Chinese state media said, referring to an upcoming conference in China next month. China says it has signed Belt and Road cooperation agreements with more than 150 countries and more than 30 international organisations. Maduro said Venezuela is also willing to closely communicate and cooperate with China within multilateral frameworks such as the BRICS mechanism and the United Nations.
