The Hungarian government will support Christian social missions, humanitarian programmes, the construction of a Syrian Orthodox school and a religious centre in Syria with 4.6 million euros, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, responsible for programmes to help persecuted Christians, announced in Brussels.

In a statement to MTI ahead of the ninth donors' conference to support the future of Syria and the region, Tristan Azbej said that at the conference he would also announce on behalf of Hungary that, in addition to the support mentioned above, the Hungarian government would help to provide care for Syrian refugees and migrants in the countries surrounding Syria in the hope that they would be able to return to their countries as soon as possible.

The Hungarian government has provided €28 million in aid to persecuted Christians and Syrian people through Christian institutions over the past seven years through the Hungary Helps program, the State Secretary said.
