Despite attacks by pro-war politicians in Europe, the Hungarian government will continue its peace mission, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in a Facebook video on Sunday.

The minister was responding to reactions to Viktor Orbán's travels, which saw the Hungarian prime minister first holding talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev and then with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The trips were not announced in advance.

He stressed that Hungary, the Hungarian government, will do its utmost to contribute to ending the war in its neighbourhood, to contribute to creating peace in its neighbourhood and to help Europe finally break out of the stifling war crisis after two and a half years.

The foreign minister said the past week had also explained why the war crisis in Europe was deepening. Europe is full of pro-war politicians who have all "come out" this week, have all spoken out, and have all criticised the Hungarian government and the Hungarian prime minister for working for peace and negotiating the possibility of peace, Szijjártó said. He added that these pro-war politicians have been steadily deepening the war crisis in Europe over the past two and a half years with arms transfers, fantasies of sending ground troops and talk of nuclear weapons.

"These attacks do not discourage and discourage us, the peace mission will continue and even intensify, so I call on Europe's pro-war politicians to fasten their seatbelts and to pay close attention next week", Szijjártó said. Meanwhile, the 444.hu portal reported that after his talks in Kiev and Moscow, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is heading to Beijing.
