Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on Monday, with whom he signed ten economic agreements. The Hungarian PM also met the heads of the two largest Chinese banks.

The third major conference of the Belt and Road Initiative is being held in Beijing with the attendance of the representatives of 130 countries, including 20 heads of state and government. "After 2017 and 2019, Hungary was invited to this event again. We were happy to accept the invitation as China is an important business partner for us, he added, highlighting that this year Chinese companies are the biggest foreign investors in Hungary," Viktor Orbán said in a Facebook video.

On Monday, they began talks with the Chinese Prime Minister, and they signed ten agreements of a business nature, following which they had talks with the executives of the two largest Chinese banks.

According to Viktor Orbán, the world had reached a crossroads; the main question concerns what we should opt for: war or peace; isolation or cooperation.

He indicated that Hungarians know isolation only too well, and they know what it entails: impoverishment and a constant threat of war.

"By contrast, we are working on the expansion of our economic relations, equally towards the East and the West. I’m convinced that this is the only way to preserve Hungary’s competitiveness and security. This is why we are here in China, and this is what we will talk about in the coming days,"

he stressed.

Li Qiang highlighted that despite the geographical distance, a strong and old friendship ties the two countries together. He added that China appreciates the fact that Hungary was the first European state to sign the Belt and Road economic cooperation agreement. He said the bilateral relations are amicable, and they have fruitful results.
