The first Chinese AAA video game Black Myth: Wukong made history by selling ten million copies in just three days after its release. Its success has continued ever since, surpassing twenty million sales.

Whether or not it will win the Game of the Year Award, the sales figures speak for themselves – according to Fandomwire.com, a leading video game portal. At the Tokyo Game Show 2024, it was revealed that the first major so-called AAA (high-end) Chinese video game has really taken the market by storm.

Black Myth: Wukong already made history by selling 10 million copies in the first three days after its August release. Its success has continued ever since, surpassing 20 million sales after the first month. It has beaten titles such as Grand Theft Auto V and Elden Ring.

And this is just the beginning. Fandomwire.com reminded us that the first DLC and the Xbox version of the game is scheduled to arrive in 2025. The article also acknowledges that the Monkey King story is popular primarily in China, where most of the players are from. But the Chinese video game market is also becoming increasingly dominant globally. The game has also been loved in the reviews: it's at 81 percent on Metacritic, 10 out of 10 on Steam, and 8/10 on IGN.

Whether it will win the Game of the Year Award remains to be seen. Each year, a prestigious award is given to the video game that offers the best technical and gameplay experience. Often the nomination itself is considered a great success. Black Myth: Wukong is considered one of the main contenders this year.
