"The reality is that China is now our biggest trading partner. The green transition and competitive industry cannot work without Chinese raw materials and equipment," said Enikő Győri. "Given the facts, how can the European Commission think that the prospect of sanctions is the right way forward?" she asked.
"We should finally accept that China is different from us and we will not be able to mould it in our own image. But that should not prevent us from developing mutually beneficial economic relations. Instead of discussing the severing of trade relations, we should finally put the interests of European companies first. Let's revisit the EU-China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI), negotiated for the end of 2020, which, if adopted, would have been a win-win for European firms. We must not be naïve, but problems must be solved through dialogue, not through self-serving hardball. We can only come out of everything else as losers", said the Hungarian MEP.
