Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó thanked his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi for his country's efforts to bring peace to Ukraine.

Péter Szijjártó spoke by phone to Wang Yi in Vienna ahead of a meeting of Central European ministers. On his Facebook page on Wednesday, the Hungarian foreign minister wrote that he and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi agreed that the conditions for peace are deteriorating day by day, so efforts to build peace must be multiplied. His Chinese counterpart "expressed his appreciation for the Hungarian policy of peace", he added.

They also agreed that cooperation between the European Union and China should not be scaled down, but rather stepped up. Reducing cooperation would be detrimental to Europe, they noted.
The minister also pointed out that Hungary has become "the number one European destination for Chinese electric car investments". "We are proud of this," he said, "because we are achieving all these investments in the face of extremely fierce European competition." These investments will help to keep the Hungarian economy on a growth path, he said. The two ministers also reviewed the Budapest-Belgrade railway line renewal project and assured each other of their mutual commitment "to the successful completion of the project", Szijjártó said on his social media page.
