Hungary's example shows that cooperation with China is a win-win-win situation for all parties, György Matolcsy, the central bank governor, told CGTN during his visit to China.

Hungary and China celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, and the cooperation between the two countries is deep-rooted and continuously developing, György Matolcsy, Governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, the central bank of Hungary, stressed in an interview with the Chinese TV channel CGTN. He added that cooperation is flourishing in many areas of life, including the economy and finance, but human and political relations are also strong.

He pointed out that during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit in early May, the strategic partnership between the two countries was taken to a higher level, with only five countries in the world having such good relations with China, and Hungary is the only European among them. "This is a great honour for us, a recognition of our joint work, and the beginning of a new era," he said. The central bank governor recalled that in the past three years, several Chinese high-tech companies have decided to invest in Hungary, including BYD and CATL.

According to György Matolcsy, there is also great potential for cooperation in the digital transition and the transition from the conventional to the green energy sector. On financial cooperation, he highlighted that the four largest Chinese commercial banks are all present in Hungary and Hungary has become the first foreign sovereign Green Panda bond issuer (in 2021).

The central bank governor stressed that in Hungarian-Chinese relations, Hungary is striving to be the first in all economic and financial fields, in order to convey the message to the whole world that cooperation with China is a win-win-win situation for everyone.

György Matolcsy recently participated in the 10th edition of the Tsinghua PBCSF Global Finance Forum in Hangzhou, where the future of an innovative and crisis-resilient global financial system, the latest developments in global economic development and geopolitical challenges were discussed by the world's leading finance experts. Prior to the event, the Rector of Fudan University in Shanghai ceremonially conferred the appointment of the President of the Central Bank as Honorary Professor of the University.
