The world's largest battery maker for electric vehicles, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) announced plans on Tuesday to achieve carbon neutrality in its core operations by 2025 and across the battery value chain by 2035, China Daily reports.

"For CATL, achieving carbon neutrality demonstrates our capability, which also opens up more opportunities," said Jiang Li, CATL's board secretary, at the Auto Shanghai, according to the article.

China Daily notes that the battery giant's carbon neutrality plan also marks the largest plan in scale in lithium-ion battery industry, as the sales volume of CATL's lithium-ion batteries soared to 289 GWh last year, according to SNE Research.
