Last month, the company’s Yangwang U9 Track Edition reached more than 472 km/h, setting a new benchmark for electric vehicles. Now, BYD has unveiled the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, a Track Edition variant, which has broken through another barrier — reaching 496 km/h. This makes it not only the fastest EV but the fastest production car in the world, surpassing hypercar benchmarks previously set by Bugatti and outpacing Rimac’s Nevera, which tops out at 412 km/h.
The U9 Xtreme also completed a lap of the Nürburgring in Germany in 6 minutes and 59 seconds. By comparison, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, the previous fastest production EV, recorded a time just under 7 minutes and 5 seconds.
