For the fifth year running, the Eurasia Forum was held in Budapest, organised by the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, the central bank of Hungary. Five years ago, at the first Eurasia Forum, György Matolcsy, Governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank declared that the 500-year Atlantic era was over and that a new multipolar world order, the Eurasian era, had begun.

The emergence of new eras, the transition, does not usually happen overnight, and during this time the world faces many challenges and difficulties. In recent years, pandemics and wars have complicated or even accelerated the emergence of the new world order.

However, the last five years have also been a good demonstration of the Eurasia Forum's vision of a Eurasian era: China is playing an increasingly important economic and political role in the world economy and world order, the Belt and Road Initiative is gaining momentum and last year marked its 10th anniversary.

Various international organisations such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Organisation of Turkic States and others are also growing and becoming increasingly influential in the world. But in addition, the economic achievements of the past five years show that Asian countries have become the engines of the world economy with GDP growth of 5-7 percent and are also at the forefront in developing the technologies that will shape the future - renewable green energies like wind or solar, digital economy, Big Data, electric cars, etc.

However, it is important that as we move along the path of change, we do not stray from the path. This is why the Eurasia Forum has been created, bringing together leading politicians and experts from East and West here in Budapest to discuss future opportunities, challenges and new megatrends.

At this year's Eurasia Forum, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán reaffirmed the thinking behind the Eurasia Forum, and his speech confirmed the work and legitimacy of the institutions built around the Eurasia Forum, such as the Eurasia Center at John von Neumann University or Eurasia magazine, and the importance of discussing the Eurasian era. The Prime Minister's reflections were a fitting celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Eurasia Forum and a fitting finale to the third volume of Eurasia magazine.

On behalf of the Editorial Board of Eurasia, we would like to sum up this year by presenting the fifth edition of Eurasia Forum and wish all our readers a happy and peaceful holiday season.

It is certainly going to be an exciting year in terms of world events, with the inauguration of US President Trump in 2025, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-EU diplomatic relations, the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference and many more exciting international events, all of which we will be reporting on. Stay tuned next year! We wish you a happy and peaceful New Year!
